ADDICTION AND COMPULSIVE BEHAVIOUR COUNSELLING

Counselling for addiction and compulsive behaviour, without shame. With Pamela Muir, available in person in Nairn and online across the UK.

Counselling for addiction and compulsive behaviour.

Addiction is rarely just about the substance or the behaviour. There is almost always something underneath it, pain that needed numbing, a way of coping that worked until it didn’t, a pattern that started as a solution and became a problem.

Counselling won’t judge you for how you got here. It will help you understand it.

Whether you are trying to change your relationship with alcohol, drugs, gambling, or anger, whether you have been in recovery for years or you’re only just starting to acknowledge that something needs to change, you are welcome to come and talk.

Specialist Addiction Counselling in Nairn and Online

Understanding why, not just stopping what.

A lot of support around addiction focuses on the behaviour, how to stop, how to stay stopped. That matters. But person-centred counselling goes deeper than that. It asks what the addiction has been doing for you. What need has it been meeting. What might need to change in your life, your thinking, or your relationships, for change to actually stick.

Shame is one of the biggest barriers to recovery. It keeps people from reaching out, from being honest, from believing they deserve better. In our sessions, there is no judgement. Whatever you bring, I’m here to understand it, not to lecture you about it.

Anger can feel similar. It’s often a signal that something important is going unheard or unmet. Counselling can help you understand what’s driving it and find ways to respond that don’t cost you the things you care about.

Sessions are 50 minutes, available in person at my counselling bothy near Nairn, online, or by telephone. I work with clients across Scotland and the UK. Fees are £40 to £55 on a sliding scale.

I trained at the University of the Highlands and Islands and am a registered member of both BACP and COSCA.
